Bryant in the Park 8.7, 8.14.09
In August 2009, art.party.theater.company turned the lawn of Manhattan's Bryant Park into its canvas for Bryant in the Park, a performance event inspired by the nature poems of William Cullen Bryant, the park's namesake. It was a unique theatrical garden party in the middle of Manhattan — filled with magic and whimsy.
A dozen members of the exclusive and imaginary Bryant Park Croquet Society were dressed in white and playing croquet on Bryant Park's main lawn. Sipping tea and gossiping, they amuse the crowd that gathers around. Suddenly, as if possessed by a spirit, they burst into William Cullen Bryant's odes to nature. Slowly, they begin to transform and finally surrender to summer and its wild power through dance, music, and movement. At the end of the performance, members of the Bryant Park Croquet Society collected onlookers' feelings about summer.
